Jelly Roll Skirt

I have, somehow, become fascinated with sewing & cross stitching lately. I think I go through craft rotation...yarn projects, paper projects, sewing/stitching projects. I almost added stained glass to that rotation, but I think I should be thanking my lucky stars that didn't actually go through... :D

Anyway, Jelly Rolls. They fascinate me. I love them because someone else does all of the coordinating work, which is something I find ridiculously difficult.

So I found the Moda Bake Shop, and browsed the Jelly Roll section, and came across a few beauties. This one, in particular. After much hemming and hawing (and then finding a Jelly Roll at Jo Ann Fabrics for 40% off), I stitched up this beauty using the tutorial! I LOVE how it has turned out! I do need to finish it up (put in elastic and find a decorative do-hickey for the elastic casing closure), but I am SO proud of how this turned out!!

Christmas Skirts

These are redondo skirts, made from six panels (the original pattern has five, but I find odd numbers, well...odd). Stripes, elves, and polka dots, with a coordinating top for each girl. This project was the inspiration that made me buy a serger sewing machine! These were made in Nov. 2010 and got lots of wear in, and will probably fit again next year. HOORAY!

Birthday & Graduation

First we have a birthday card for Austin! He (obviously) turned 15. In 7 months he will be allowed to get his learner's permit. Avoid sidewalks... ;) *kidding!* He'll be a good driver!

Secondly we have Emily's graduation. She was in the top 10% of her graduating class, and has a swimming scholarship to Universty of Iowa in the fall. I think the current count down is in the low 20's for number of days left until she leaves for school.

Thirdly is Emily's graduation present! I think this was one of the best ideas EVER! (I'm modest, right?) She loves the show (as do I), and I thought a custom designed stitch would be right up her alley. She can show her love for all things Glee and it's small enough to pack up and take with her!

Mock Smock

Tailynn + Only Wearing Dresses = Frequent Laundry.

So that in mind, I wanted to get some dresses made that wouldn't bust the bank, but still be super cute! The answer was Mock Smock material (we got ours at JoAnn's). It is awesome!

My biggest dilema with it, though, is that it's sorta meant to be sleeveless. And I can't stand a small child in a sleeveless garment. It always falls down. Well, it always falls down on adult women too, but they keep adjusting themselves as to show *marginally* less boobs...

So as I was sewing, I decided to use the bottom of the material to make straps! I think it turned out super cute! I've got another dress portion sewn, but need to figure out straps for it. And another entire dress to construct. ...plus I've got two more fabrics on their way to me (thank you clearance section of joann.com!).

My next conquest might be this ADORABLE dress made from a man's button down shirt. Now I'm *almost* grateful Matt's got a bunch of shirts that are too small! :D

Scrapbooking Convention!!

Hubby announced early last week that he thought I needed time way from our munchkins.

Coincidently, my SIL mentioned going to the scrapbooking convention in Mesa the upcoming Saturday.

Naturally, I assumed it was fate and I went.

And it was fantastic!

I took sneaky pictures with my cell phone.
I leanred a new technique.
I bought an entire box of Bazzil cardstock.
And I found a new stamp brand to be in love with. :)

The new technique is something like this:

I love it because it does the following things:
Allows me to use the brass stencil plates that I love, but hate how much manual labor the require using them the "right" way.
Allows me to use glitter. LOTS AND LOTS OF GLITTER.

If I can find some pictures that aren't too abysmal of the things I found best at the vendor show, I'll post 'em later.

But don't hold your breath. ;)

Emily is going to be 18!!!

My niece Emily, who was born after I had just turned 12, is turning 18! And graduating from High School in a month!! I'm starting to feel...well...my age, I guess. Not old, exactly, but definetly not 18 anymore! (Though, I still tend to think of myself as 23 or 24...odd, isn't it?)

Anyway, I might still do more with this card, I'm not sure. I stamped one side of the overhead sheet with black Staz-On (for the 18), and then on the back I used glue and glitter to make it shiny, but not messy. :) I like shiny. And I only like messy on some days. This was not one of those days.

The cupcake and reamining 18's are all stamped in the inside cardstock color.

I'm pretty sure no one on my side of the family (besides my mom... Hi Mom!) reads this blog, so even though birthday's aren't until May, I'm still going to post. :)

This is the digi MerIan that I LOVED, and after coloring him, I used some Glossy Accents to make his tail super shiny! This is also my first completed easel card, and I really like it! He was super fun to color, and I'm pretty impressed with my use of embellishments (which I generally feel abysmal at using). :) Nothing like being satisfied with a card to brighten your day!

Tailynn is in love with nightgowns.

I don't care for many nightgowns in her size that I see. I don't like "characters" and the plain ones are sometimes made of weird material. So....I decided to sew my own. We went to JoAnn Fabrics and picked out a cute pattern, and I let Tailynn pick out material. Her first selection, after much hemming and hawing, was brown with pastel dots. Her second selection, after much much much more hemming and hawing, was this cute lil' bandanna/horse duo. Not my first choice, but the girl loves horses and pink, so what can I say?

This project took me three days to finish. I've never sewn anything BY MYSELF from scratch before, I've always had my mom here to help. But as you can see, it turned out *almost* exactly as it should! The Spirit horses on the front are galloping upside down (but I did that on purpose so when Tailynn looks down, she sees them right side up...yeah...on purpose I tell you!).

I'm quite proud of these! The next set (with the brown fabric) is going to be tank sleeved, and will be shorter, as to not drag on the ground. :)

Sadly, the Relay Race has ended early. The Greeting Farm was just SO swamped with participants that we continually were crashing their servers, and just overall wreaking havoc on the entire affair. So we've gotten four of the six digis, and they are planning a special surprise for AFTER the return home from the big Expo.

Here is my card using the new digi, Charlotte! :) Again, sticking with the Valentine's Day theme. :) She was super fun, and I'm getting around the "ink bleeding" thing by using my water color pencils this time.

Unfortunately, I'm still having to take pictures with my iPhone, at night, so I'm having to adjust in Photoshop (which I'm not good at yet...). It still looks better than the original, though!

Relay Race at TGF

The Greeting Farm, in honor of the CHA, is hosting a relay contest! They started with one image, (this adorable Mer Ian), and you have a deadline to submit your creation. Then, if you made it, you'll get a SECOND image, and this will continue, as long as you make the deadlines, for five days. If you make all five days, you'll get a BONUS sixth image! EEEP!! I love me some digis! (But I do wish I had my laser printer 'cuz of the whole bleedy-ink thing...) Here is my first submission for this relay!

This past weekend my best friend got married! :) It was a great wedding, and she looked so gorgeous! Since I know she already opened her card (at my demands...) I can safely post without ruining anything. :)

Here is her piratey themed wedding card! It was a challenge to make, for sure, but I knew it would be SO cute if I could pull it off. I think I did! I love it, and I'm pretty sure she loved it, too. Who doesn't live pirates?!?

My good friend, R, is pregnant and will be having her baby shower the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, so I set to making her card. It's a "family" shower, so hubby (M) will be there as well. I wanted to make a card that included both mommy and daddy. I bought stamps just for the occasion from TGF. I stamped and colored, and then I couldn't fit them on the same card...so now mom and dad EACH get a card!

Secondly, we have the Hero Arts contest this week...GLITTER! One of my most favorite things to use!! Here is my simple snowman card...wish me luck! :)

And lastly, as promised, the Halloween card I made this year. I love it still!

Well, the week here @ mom's has been eventful. The water heater died on Saturday morning. The dogs chewed a hole in the leather couch. The plumber LOST the credit card number on some random piece of paper... I'm ready to go home to a "normal" and "calm" life!

BUT I was glad to have full access to the crafting room. This card I did over the last several days. I had a brilliant idea to use popcorn in a shaker card a few weeks ago, right after I ordered my The Greeting Farm stamps. I waited for them to get here, and then I forgot the popcorn kernels... Anyway, finally after two weeks of a good idea, I finally got to use it. I made this as a Welcome Home card for my parents. The usher's shaker stuff is Diamond Dust from Twinklets.

I also finally got inspired for Halloween costumes. A friend has five costumes for her little boy, and she only needs one! She said she has TWO lion costumes, so I asked T if she wan'ted to be a lion, and she's all for it. So a lion it is. And for H, I *could* do Tinkerbell (I've got the costume...) BUT I've had the same Tink costume on T for the last two Halloweens. SO I decided to make her a pirate instead! My inspiration came from these gals. I had originally planned to go straight skull/crossbones, but saw the glitter kitty one, and fell in love! The onesies came in a pack of five, so what is a gal to do but buy more decals to practice on! :) So Meg and I spent yesterday evening playing with the iron and onesies. Today I cut up the bandana (but may do another one, a litle bigger), and I'll get to the tutu after I get back home, I think. Anyway, the onesies are crafty (enough) so they're featured as well!

Hello all! This week has been a busy one in the ol' craft department. I got my new stamps from The Greeting Farm and I had to try 'em out! I'm also dog sitting for my mom, so I've had full-time use of the craft room!! It's been awesome. The first is a card for Dad-in-law. I didn't have time to take more than one angle, but it's still super cute!

THe second card is for a niece's birthday coming up at the start of November. I made the inside first, and then had SO MANY PROBLEMS trying to get the outside to match. I think I tried three different things, and then finally decided to just wait for my 80's Anya stamp and go funky on the thing. I hope she likes it!!

The last picture is just a few of my coloring attempts with my copics. I'm so excited to use them in cards soon!! You'll likely see some of those lil' Ians again!

Hello again!

Well, I've finally convinced my mom that a craft room is in order at her house. So we've taken the "office" that she used to use for her business, but really doesn't use anymore, and changed it! Now there are shelves and brackets on the wall, all of our "stuff" is out to see... it's a wonderland of crafty goodness! And as a bonus, we don't have to haul it all out, and haul it all back and out and back every week. It's out for good!! To celebrate, I made a few cards! The first is a thank you card for a girl who made flower hair bows for my daughter.

The second is a Congrats on your First Home card for my friend and her husband. This is in shaker-card style, my very first one! I've got some new stamps on the way (OMG!!) from The Greeting Farm and already have a FABULOUS shaker card idea forming, but that won't be up until later, I'm sure. :)

The last is just a *teeny* peek at my Halloween card, which I've finished but don't want to post yet because it would give away the fun! :) Enjoy!

I didn't have this kitty all the way done when I took the photo. She's a little Garfield-esque, but I'm okay with that! I love how these flowers turned out, too!!

Okay, I know I promised to post pictures of my baking fun from two weeks ago, BUT I got too excited about this card!! My brother, Tim, happens to have one of the GREATEST birthday days in the US. September 19th. If you aren't sure why this is awesome, I suggest a quick google search.

I always have trouble with my "man cards." They still seem too girly when I am done with them, but this card....THIS CARD is PURE AWESOMENESS! (My eyes! It's too awesome!)

The pirate, sentiment, and skull/crossbones are all from The Greetings Farm. I JUST got these stamps on Thursday and could not wait to try 'em out. The argyle background is from Cuttlebug, and the silver flame is a cutting file from Visual Designs by Chris. I'm so psyched about this card, all the doods in my family might be getting one similar for their birthdays over the next year!

My great friend, T, and her daughter S (Ya-ya) come and see my daughter and I at LEAST once or twice a week. Sometimes more! T has been a great friend to us, and our daughters get along as great as any two-year-olds can! They actually SHARE (sometimes) without being told! Anyway, Ya-ya's birthday party was this weekend, so I had to make up a card. T is into art, so I used my "art" skills and broke out the watercolor pencils (that I probably have NEVER used). I am SO happy with how this turned out! The little birdy is too cute! Anyway, Ya-ya may not appreciate the card now, but when she gets older, I hope she thinks it rocks. :) I also had another project (not card-related) for the party, but more about that later this week.

My baby girl had her Baptism on Sunday. I am SO thankful for all of our friends and family that were able to make it to the blessed event!! In order to thank them properly, I had to make cards, of course! I needed them to be quick, but nice. I was inspired by a card my SIL found on Flickr. I used Tattered Rose ink to make the paisley design stand out, and some silver ribbon I've had sitting around for ages! I'm pretty happy with the way they came out, and hopefully all of my thankees will like 'em too!

Phoenix Zoo!

My friend, T, and her friend, K, and I took our kiddos to the zoo at the start of the summer. It was starting to get pretty warm, but we were there in the morning, so it wasn't too hot yet. It was a good time! There is a "Little People" farm area, that the kids loved, and the zoo officials have installed a few little "water parks," which were a big hit. Luckily for us, the day we went wasn't very crowded, so the girls didn't get trampled too much. Here is a Q&D page, but cute all the same! Enjoy!

Since January I've been to www.divinedigital.com almost every day without fail to download their freebie. The 1-15th of the month all of them are a set, and then a second set from the 16-last day. It's awesome! But I haven't had a ton of time to do much with my downloads. So last night, I decided to make myself a new desktop background. It isn't perfect yet, but getting close. My newest card! I feel like it has been SO long since I got to craft, and alas, it has been! The July birthdays in my family are sparse, and with family stress, I haven't felt really "crafty." Well, as I haven't been able to photograph any cards recently (camera in shop AGAIN), I thought I'd take a few moments to post about Hero Arts (HA) website & blog!

I've been following the HA Blog for quite some time now, and I frequently browse the website for ideas and/or goodies. But now, they're going and changing it on me! There will be a NEW website being launched on the 15th! I'm so excited, I'm shaking like a chihuahua!

In addition to the fantastic new site revamp, they're giving away TWICE the prizes, which will double my chance at a first win! w00t! I'm quite excited, and I'm hoping to get enough project time in to create some masterpieces to post!

Inspiration Weekend!

Awright, what a weekend it was! I got FOUR cards done! The first are two random ones for a niece & nephew. I used TECC#72, but the challenge for ME was to make two cards from the same sketch that looked completely different. I'm pretty happy with the results!

My oldest daughter turns TWO on the 21st, so I worked on her card, and it is SO cute! I love it!

The last card was for my SIL's birthday that was on the 10th. She wasn't celebrating until the weekend, so I didn't feel guilty for not having it done "on time." I've also entered it into the Hero Arts contest for this week that involved using diecuts.

Since I'm lazy, and didn't write down supplies, you'll just have to leave a comment if you want to know about any supplies, and then I'll get back to ya'! Enjoy!

Ooo! Picture taking changes...

I've been quite unhappy about how my pictures turn out. There are several reasons for this:
1) I am not a photographer.
2) I don't get to use my OWN camera at the moment, so I'm using one I'm not used to.
3) I don't have proper lighting, so usually I have to rely on crappy flash, or try to combat the sun somehow.

I decided to employ a white posterboard technique to see what I could come up with. I'm pretty happy with the results! The sun was behind clouds today, so that helped keep harsh shadows out, but in the future, I have other ideas to help me filter light and keep tones even. There are also a few adjustments to hue/contrast after I loaded them onto my computer, but I can handle that. Here is the example I took, the original picture I took when I made the card, and then the one I took today to test out my "new" way to take a picture of cards!

This is my VERY FIRST entry in a Hero Arts competition! The challenge was to create a one layer card, which is difficult for me to do mostly because my very first cards were one layer and so simple and (in my opinion) cruddy looking. To make something that looks nice to me and revert back to my first basic ways was REALLY hard. If I'd had more time, I probably would've done a few more, but alas, between the 21 month old and the two week old, time is at a premium these days. :D

Twist & Shout over Spring!

Well, my genius SIL has done it again. See here. This was an INCREDIBLE idea, so I've naturally stolen it. Something about imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? Anyway...

My OB is fantastic and I love her. She's been awesome the past nine months, and I know I'll want to thank her properly after Hennessey is born, so I made the thank you card today.

I used the Wishblade to cut the flower pattern on both of the papers. Thanks to my dad for doing math for me because I'm too pregnant to figure out five into 360. Anyway, now that the difficult cutting was out of the way, I just had to put it together using a variation of the Spinner Card Penny Technique.

I think all in all this came out quite well. I'm not using my camera, so I didn't get all of the angles I wanted for the photos, but you get the idea, eh? Oh, and the supplies list is extensive!! But it was so worth it! :)

Okay, so his birthday was on the 15th of January, but I haven't downloaded pictures in a while. :) Here is the card I made for him. It's more of a pocket, but it's still pretty groovy. The poem reads as follows:

A NEW CRAFT!! Just what I need, right? I got this TOTALLY adorable book for Christmas (thanks to the in-laws!)....

This is my first "pair" of critters. I've done a few eggs/eggshells, a mommy octopus, and am currently working on a chihuahua, a baby octopus, and a cactus.

Finally, the thing I'm best at... cards!

I made the one with the humming bird for some birthdays coming up (since I'm short on time this month, they're all getting the same card.) I also loved my mom's cards so much, I took their picture and am posting them as well. I do have her permission for that!

The stamps are mostly Inkadinkadoo (the Spring & Occasions sets sold in Costco). Inks are ColorBox and StazOn. I have no clue on the paper, except it's probably from a Stack from JoAnn's or something.

Thanksgiving Crafting!

For Thanksgiving, my hubby and I decided it would be nice if we made place cards! A few months ago we found these (what we thought) hideous squirrel place card holders. It sort of turned into a joke, but come Tuesday before Thanksgiving, I'd forgotten all about the cards. I made a stop at my mom's place (well, by stop I mean we spent all day there) and I made these beauties! I used the pink Wishblade, and a pattern (whose original creator I don't remember). I had to do a lot of altering, and probably messed up more than I made, but all in all, they turned out pretty sweet, I think. :)

Korker Bows!

So, I've been trying to earn a little dough on the side, so I found instructions for hair bows (thank God for the internet!). I've been making them custom for some of my fellow moms at Mom's Group, so these are the ones I've done so far! I think they are super cute and can't wait until Lil' T's hair is thick enough to use them in!

Online Scrapping

So, I've had a "Scrapblog" account for quite some time now, but in its early days it wasn't very reliable, nor was there much of a selection. Now, however, it frickin' rocks my socks. I worked on this today. The photo is from lunch today, and then I got all motivated and put it in this:

I also know a fantastic group of Moms that I met from *gasp*...the INTERNET! We were all preggers at the same time (all due 6/17, 18, 19, 20 & 21 of 2007). The group has changed here and there, but I wanted to do an animated siggie of our pictures & our June babies (now toddlers!). Unfortunately, the place where we would most use this little siggie doesn't allow HTML anymore (jerks), so it's pretty much a lost cause unless you post on a bunch of other places on teh internets. Anyway, here is the page I did for Tailynn & I for that animation... Maybe it will still happen. If it does, I'll post it here!! :)

So, the first card I've posted is pretty much an exact copy of my SIL's card, but in pink. (See her blue one here).

Also, we have the card I made for my FIL's birthday. I like it, it is simple and neat. Just what I need these days. :D

A Few Cards...

So, here are a few cards I did the past month or so. I needed some really quick ones, so I went with the b/w paper, colored in a flower, and added just a few accents. The pictures are slightly blurry because I'm lame and was using someone's camera to photograph.

The birthday card was inspired by Lysa, (her blog is listed on the side) and I love it! It turned out really cute. The inside just said "May today be one of your all-time favorites."

I'm exhausted right now, so I can't really remember all of my supplies. I know the animals are from Rubber Soul.

*This was the card for the hubby, and I'll try to dig up some of the names of stamps and such, but I'm new to this! :) The inside tag was used with Making Memories square tags. The paper is from a scrap pack of DCWV papers.

*This was the card that Tailynn gave to her grandpas. The stamp on front is "Fire Crackers" by Stampendous. It was stamped with Staz On black ink and colored with various Le Plume II markers. The striped paper is from the DCWV Summer Stack.
